Semester 2 Blog 1

For my first independent project I am co-leading a basketball tournament with my classmate Driskell Jack. The main purpose for me to make this one of my lead projects is that i feel that if the teams are picked according to what class the students are in. What I hoped to have happen is the that there will be one team captain and that the chosen captain would pick his team according to both skills in the sport and who they don't know. This way they can grow more comfortable with students that they don't know. What I was hoping to have happen would be that the winning class could gain spirit points because of the fact that the roster was based off of class.
The way that the tournament would work would be that we would have to games going on at the two different half courts. Going sideline to sideline. Like the NCAA the tournament would go by with a one game elimination process. But that depends on the number of teams that we can get to sign up for the event. If we don't get the number of students that we were hoping for then we would just have it as a two game elimination process.
I envisioned for the tournament to last about two weeks after it begins. What I believe would interfere with the project from happening according to plan would be someone from one of the teams not being able to make it. That is why I wanted to appoint one team captain because of the fact that they could be my way of keeping in touch with the team. I will get the contact information of the team captain so that I can send them the details of when games are so that they can contact their team mates and make sure beforehand that there will be someone either taking a test or not coming to school that day.

Reflection

Reflection
The Football could not have been better. At first people were slow to get on with the plan but then people started to come as they heard how much fun it was.Participation was higher than expected with 4 teams signed up and over 20 kids participating.  A double elimination bracket was set up and a series of 7 games were set up on the second Thursday. Some changes for next time would be to get the word out earlier so that players have time to get full teams together. We had originally made but they helped very little in getting the word out. The link below is video footage of yesterdays game.  https://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=2&ik=7d8e06b2b1&view=att&th=12dcac0aec7cee34&attid=0.1&disp=safe&zw

Project 2 proposal

Executive Summary
As a STEM school Aviation does not have a sports team or a PE class in which the students can participate in. That is one of the reasons why inter-murals were started last year. A step down from inter-Murals the football games that we are going to be holding every Thursday can and should be a good way for people to get their needed PE hours done. It is going to be held during school so that anyone who wants to play can, and it will be two-hand touch or flag depending on what is safer and what the students would want to participate in.

Need
Besides wanting a good number of students participating in the events, the event should also be a way for students to actually bond with one another and create a more family like atmosphere in our school. The event is open to all grades and will be held in clubs because the time would make it easier for people to make it to the field where the event will be held.

Objective

This Football tournament is going to be held in an attempt to open up intramurals to a larger group of students.  Because up until now all intramurals has done is soccer, basketball, and dodgeball.  By holding a football tournament we will be able to appeal to a wider array of students at AHS. There will be a booth at lunch set up to pass out rosters and ethic codes to those interested in participating in the Tournament, or seeking more information about the club and its activities.

Time Table
Thursday, January 6; Make posters to be used during lunch on the 6th at the booth.
Friday, January 7;  Have a table at Lunch ready to pass out information such as rosters, and ethics codes.
Tuesday, January 11;  Forms are due back to be considered for entry, and brackets are emailed out to team captains same night.
Thursday January 13; Tournament begins, and will continue to the next week.

Budget
There should not be any budget at all. The participant might need to bring their own socks or towels to represent flags. But other than that there shouldn’t be anything.

Conclusion
I think that the project will bring classmates together because they are competing in a sport that they all enjoy

Third help reflection

My third help project was helping Derrick Smith and Jorge Delgado hold a soccer tournament in the gym at school during lunch. What I did was help them make the Facebook notifacations giving people the information of the event and I also help them organize a roster and lineup. The reason why they did this project was because they knew that the school had a big population of people that would want to take part in a soccer tournament. And there was a nice big turn out for the event as well.

Project 1 Refelction

The event was held in MR. Wards room during lunch and clubs on Thursday. Instead of watching a movie the attendess voted for a couple of episodes from the show "The Office". Something i would want to change would be to not procrastinate and create posters to actually get the word out about the event.

Barriers

  1. A barrier that I am going to have to face is the number of students that are going to show up. There is no way that I can actually know for sure how many people will come. But a way in which I might be able to get around that barrier might be to make sure that the people are informed as much as possible that way I can eliminate or reduce the number of people that don't come based off of the fact that they just didn't know.

    1. Another barrier that I might have to face is the fact that I might get games that people don't enjoy. But I think that if I just get an abundance of games that there will be no way that someone will dislike every single one there.

      1. Another barrier there for me to face is going to be that people wont like the movie I choose. A way for me to get around that is have a list of movies that people would enjoy. Then the advisory before the event I will go to the junior and senior advisories and I will ask for them to vote on the one they would like best.

Second help project reflec.

For my second help project I helped Molly. Her project was a holiday gram project where friends bought each other a candy gram and then the day before we left to go on winter break we had to deliver them. So when someone bought someone else a candy gram they had to write down the seventh period of that person. So that last Thursday before we left molly had a pile of grams that people had bought each other. So what we had to do was separate the grams by seventh periods (there were a lot of grams so a number of students helped). Once that was done we had to tape a piece of candy onto every piece. After that was done I took the piles of grams to seventh periods and handed them out to the ones that belonged to the different students.
